Future Proofing Organic Cotton
Farmers from the Vasudha organic cooperative in India are working with an expert seed breeder to trial and develop high quality organic cotton seeds to create choice about how they farm. Excitingly, the project has produced its own packaged seeds which are now being sold to farmers. Madhya Pradesh, where the project is based, produces 23% of the world’s organic cotton. This work is future proofing farmers access non-GM seed to protect and improve their livelihoods, health, soil and environment. This project is funded by TRAID and delivered by Fairtrade Foundation and Pratibha Syntex.
