UNICEF – Water and Sanitation Programme, Angola
The goal of UNICEFŐs water and sanitation programme was to reduce the prevalence of water and sanitation related diseases, such as cholera and diarrhoea, in Angola. TRAIDŐs donation of Ł180,472 in 1999 allowed UNICEF to provide access to safe water and sanitation facilities to over 100,000 households. UNICEF also successfully trained local people in maintenance skills in order to look after the new facilities. In addition, UNICEF delivered community mobilisation and school programmes to 50% of the national population. Finally, UNICEF worked to strengthen the capacity of central and provincial water agencies of the Government to plan, implement and sustain water and sanitation projects.
