TRAID is committed to being an environmentally conscious and responsible organisation. The nature of TRAID's work — providing textile recycling facilities, a regular collection service and convenient retail outlets for second hand clothing and other goods — allows the organisation to make its most significant environmental impact of diverting over 3,500 tonnes of textile waste from UK landfill each year. In addition, TRAID's policy is to ensure that all aspects of the business, from its textile collections to its internal head office and retail activities, have the least harmful effect on the environment.
TRAID is consistently striving to implement an environmental management system to:
Be fully aware of all environmental legislation and ensure that regulatory requirements are met, and, where feasible, improved upon;
Minimise, reuse and/or recycle generated waste in its head office, warehouse and retail shops;
Purchase, where possible, products that are reused and/or recycled, biodegradable, produced using renewable energy sources, and/or sourced from Fairtrade or organic certified producer organisations;
Commit to reducing energy consumption, and where feasible, utilise renewable energy sources;
Prevent pollution throughout its daily activities by selecting non-pollution technology;
Communicate its environmental policy with all employees, suppliers, contractors, vendors and members of the public;
Ensure all employees, in the course of their duties, act in accordance with the environmental policy;
Encourage suppliers, contractors and vendors to act in accordance with our environmental standards;
Set and review targets surrounding environmental performance on a yearly basis;
Monitor the implementation of the policy by carrying out annual audits of compliance and, where appropriate introduced remedial measures.
